This learning guide covers Other Personal Lines Solutions, part of the Certified Insurance Service Representative designation program. This learning guide covers five main sections:
· Business Activities
· Recreational Lines
· Personal Umbrella/Excess Liability
· Personal Lines Catastrophe Coverage
· Emerging Risks
Section 1: Business Activities
In this section, you will explore how both the ISO Homeowners Policy and the ISO Personal Auto Policy contain coverage gaps related to the “business” activities of personal insurance clients. Once you’ve obtained a solid understanding of “business” activities and potential coverage gaps, you will also explore which ISO coverage endorsement may be useful and learn when a risk or exposure should be referred to a commercial insurance policy
Section 2: Recreational Lines
In this section, you will gain an understanding of the purpose and importance of recommending Recreational Vehicle Policies and Watercraft Policies for personal insurance clients. Certain recreational vehicles and watercraft may indeed be insurable under the ISO Homeowners Policy or maybe even the ISO Automobile Policy, however, it is often best for the client to obtain a specialty policy.
Section 3: Personal Umbrella/Excess Liability
The ISO Homeowners Policy, ISO Personal Auto Policy, and other available personal insurance products do not provide unlimited liability coverage to protect personal insurance clients. Even when maximum liability limits are selected, these limits are often not high enough. In this section, you will come to understand the purpose and benefits of the Personal Umbrella and Excess Liability Policies for personal insurance clients and how these policies both supplement and augment other personal insurance policies.
Section 4: Personal Lines Catastrophe Coverage
In this section, you will gain an understanding of additional coverage solutions that address certain catastrophic losses typically excluded by the Homeowners Policy or Dwelling Fire Policy. These catastrophic risks include flood, wind, wildfire, and earthquake losses. You will learn to assess your personal insurance clients for these catastrophic risks, be able to identify the right coverage solutions, and offer methods for minimizing losses.
Section 5: Emerging Risks
In this section, you will learn about the importance of staying informed of the various ways new or emerging risks develop and evolve for personal lines clients. You will gain the ability to identify new or re-emerging risks, understand when existing coverage options may not be enough, and utilize essential risk management steps to better inform personal insurance consumers of their potential exposures.
