This learning guide covers Commercial Casualty I, part of the Certified Insurance Service Representative designation program. This learning guide covers three main sections:

Section 1: Essentials of Legal Liability

In this section, you will strengthen your understanding of the legal principles that establish obligations of parties for torts, the principles of contractual and statutory liability, and how damages are assessed for responsible parties. By the end of this section, you will be able to discuss the liability exposures faced by your commercial customers.

Section 2: Commercial General Liability

In this section, you will become familiar with the Insurance Services Office (ISO) Commercial. General Liability Coverage Form. Familiarity includes an understanding of essential policy terms and the ability to explain what activities are covered and excluded on the three primary coverages. You will also understand the purpose of endorsements sometimes used with the coverage form.

Section 3: Additional Insureds

In this section, you will deepen your understanding of the contractual requirements impacting the CGL policy and the reasons for adding Additional Insured status. You will explore any problems associated with Additional Insured status, as well as various editions of commonly used Additional Insured endorsements.
